Live Music: The Fatum Brothers
At: Arlo NoMad (NYC)
In 1990, the Michael and John Fatum were born on the North Side of Chicago… Before they could walk, they were bouncing along to Mahalia Jackson, Paul Simon, and Pete Seeger. By the age of four, they wandered over to the piano and began studying the Suzuki Method. At Ten John received his first snare drum, and the next year Michael picked out the trumpet in middle-school band.
Since that time they have spurred numerous projects including the Fatum Brothers’ Jazz Orchestra, Peacetet, and Trio, and programmed and performed hundreds of concerts all across the United States. After graduating from college in 2012(John from the Eastman School of Music and Michael from New York University), they’ve taken up shop in New York City when not on the road. Both the Fatums are in-demand musicians, defiant of genre, playing across the city with everything from Afro-beat to swing bands, and folk musicians to gospel choirs. John and Michael are passionately dedicated to strengthening a sense of community with every audience they encounter through the joy of their music.
