What is a Houseperson responsible for…

This position is responsible for ensuring that assigned public space and guest room floors are kept fully stocked and clean; to provide support to Room Attendants during the cleaning process of the guest rooms. Pick up and deliver guest laundry and dry cleaning, count and record soil laundry, count and record guest laundry; general deliveries for guests upon request and any areas assigned by management while maintaining the hotel standards.

Our Hotel:

Originally built as the Nautilus Hotel, our boutique hotel on Collins Ave is located in the heart of Miami’s Art Deco district. Designed by famed architect Morris Lapidus in the 1950s, Nautilus, features a comfortable design that emulates a luxury beach house with public spaces, rooms and suites that have an international and residential feel.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:

  • Always treat guests with courtesy and respect in a variety of situations
  • Honesty & Integrity
  • Maintain open communication with Housekeeping Managers and all other departments
  • Reviews daily inventory of rooms, arrivals and departures
  • To be mindful of the importance of personal hygiene and grooming
  • Adhere to hotel Health and Safety guidelines
  • Participate in pre-shift meeting
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast paced environment
  • Daily sign in and out of designated master key
  • Report immediately any accident and or incident which may accrue while at work
  • Acknowledge guest with eye contact
  • Use guest name whenever possible
  • Report all guest concerns to management in a timely manner

SPECIFIC DUTIES

LINEN ROOMS

  • Supply linen rooms with guest amenities according to standards
  • Deliver linen and glasses to linen closet daily
  • Participate in linen inventory
  • counting and recording soiled laundry/linen
  • counting and recording clean laundry/linen
  • Maintain proper par stock of guest and cleaning supplies on all floors
  • Remove garbage from linen rooms and take to designated area on all floors

Guest Rooms

  • Retrieve soiled linens and garbage from Guest Rooms and Room Attendants carts and/or storage closets to dispose of through linen and trash shoot
  • Deliver clean linens /heavy items to Room Attendants guest room upon request
  • Assist room attendant with cleaning rooms
  • Deliver guest amenities or special requests to guest rooms, toothpaste/toothbrush, refrigerators, & guest laundry and dry cleaning
  • Handle guest request within 15 minutes of guest calling
  • Moving furniture

Guest Corridors/Guest & Service Elevators/Back of the House

  • Vacuum corridors daily and ensure there is no debris on floor
  • Report maintenance issues and special cleaning assignments
  • Carpet cleaning
  • Mattress program
  • Keep and maintain cleanliness of guest and service elevator and elevator tracks
  • Ensure that mirrors in elevators are free of smudges
  • Vacuum, dust and remove garbage in all back the house offices
  • Ensure that team members change rooms are clean and tidy and adequately supplied with paper products

Public Space

  • Including Rooftop Lounge, Lobby, Listening Lounge, Meeting Rooms, Courtyard, Public Washrooms
  • Ensure that lobby floor is clean and free of debris
  • Clean glass entrance doors as required
  • Maintain high level of service in public areas
  • Ensure that Roof Top lounge and terrace is clean and tidy daily
  • Ensure that glass on Rooftop doors is free of smudges
  • Ensure that public washrooms (men’s and women) are clean and tidy and adequately supplied with paper products
  • Pick up trash on the exterior of the property
  • Snow removal around the perimeter of the property

Housekeeping & Engineering Overall

  • Participate in monthly and weekly housekeeping projects
  • Sign off on guest request in department log
  • Review work status of incomplete work at the end of each shift with Assistant Manager-Housekeeping
  • Report all engineering and housekeeping deficiencies to housekeeping manager
  • Perform well under pressure situations
  • Support for other operating departments and guest activities
  • Always treat guests with courtesy and respect in a variety of situations
  • Maintains departmental compliance with hotel housekeeping procedures
  • Ensure that productivity standard is being consistently followed
  • Responds to all building related safety concerns
  • Perform other duties as requested, such as (but not limited to) moving supplies and equipment or cleaning up spills to ensure safe working environment
  • Report major repairs and items which cannot be repaired immediately to Management for further action
  • Fulfill minor engineering requests
  • Ensuring communication between contractors and management
  • Train other employees

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to push, pull, grasp, lift or carry supplies, equipment or tools weighting up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours)
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain on the job training certification in relation to health and safety
