’Tis the season… of giving and gratitude. And while we at Arlo like to get involved in Thanksgiving and holiday season-oriented charity events and fundraisers, we’re all about giving back year-round. From partnering with non-profit organizations in each of our local communities to volunteering and beyond, this spirit of service is all part of our Arlo Cares company initiative.

Our Causes

At Arlo, we do more than promote our neighborhoods as places to eat, shop, and explore. We also aim to support our neighbors by partnering with organizations with strong ties to the community. For example, in New York City, we work with Henry Street Settlement, which assists Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers via social services, arts, and healthcare programs.

“Henry Street Settlement is a game-changer for me,” says Arlo’s NYC-based People Services Manager Michael Webster, who volunteers with the organization. “My mother is 80, so this could be her [that the organization is supporting]. I make a special effort to provide excellent service, a fun atmosphere, and sometimes a shoulder to cry on.”

Also in New York, Arlo works with New York Cares, a nonprofit focused on social issues in New York City, and North Brooklyn Angels, which operates a Mobile Soup Kitchen and provides other services to locals experiencing food insecurity. Every year, North Brooklyn Angels hosts their Neighbors Giving Thanks event to provide holidays meals to the community in Williamsburg and Greenpoint.

In Miami, our team at Arlo Wynwood partners with Miami Rescue Mission, which supports men, women and children affected by homelessness.

“Volunteering at Miami Rescue Mission was a great experience for me, as someone who was born and raised in the area for many years,” says Leo Desravines, IT Manager at Arlo Wynwood. “It gave me the opportunity to give back to the community and those less fortunate. ‘Feed the streetz’ has always been a term for helping our own so we keep that saying going.”

Our Miami-based team is also now working with CARE Elementary, a free, not-for-profit private school in Overtown, serving at-risk, underprivileged children from the neighborhood. Team members will assist with CARE’s reading program, which has helped 75% of the school’s students boost their reading skills over the past two years. This Forbes article by the school’s principal and president details more of the awesome work CARE teachers are doing to raise up their students.

More than just a way to donate to charities, Arlo Cares encompasses our company values, including our commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and our mission to operate sustainably conscious hotels that respect our local environments. We also hold both our team members and our guests accountable for their actions, with an Anti-Racism Policy for employees, and an Arlo House Rules policy, which guests sign upon check-in (agreeing that bullying, harassment, discrimination, physical assault and damage of property will not be tolerated).
